The 1959 Ed Roth "Outlaw" was a groundbreaking custom car that marked a bold departure from traditional hot rod design. Originally known as "Excaliber," the Outlaw was Roth’s first major fiberglass creation, hand-sculpted over a wire frame and built on a shortened 1929 Ford Model A chassis. With its wild, asymmetrical body, exposed engine, and bubble canopy, the car showcased Roth’s imaginative, rebellious approach to car building. Powered by a Cadillac V8, the Outlaw stunned crowds at car shows and quickly became a symbol of the emerging “Kustom Kulture.”
