The 1959 MGA Roadster represents the most refined stage of MG’s first modern post-war sports car design. Introduced in 1955 as a replacement for the traditional T-series, the MGA featured a sleek, aerodynamic body with flowing fenders and a low, wide stance that marked a dramatic stylistic departure for the marque. By 1959 the model benefited from the improved 1,588-cc “1600” B-series engine, producing about 79 horsepower and giving the lightweight roadster lively performance and a top speed approaching 100 mph. Its precise rack-and-pinion steering, independent front suspension, and excellent balance made it a favorite among both weekend enthusiasts and club racers.
